A Case of Long-standing Cerebellar Dysfunction after the Recovery form Acute Lithium Intoxication

Abstract
Lithium carbonate is a widely used and important drug in the treatment and prevention of affective disorders. However, lithium has a narrow therapeutic index and may induce multi-systemic toxic toxic effects by acute overdose, sometimes results
in
serious outcomes. The severity and pesistency of toxic reactions is known to correlate to the highest serum lithium level and its duration in toxic state.
The authors experienced a depressive patient who showed severe lithium toxic reactions followed by long-standing cerebellar dysfunction. The patient was 28-year-old woman who took a lot of lithium carbonate as an attempt to suicide but was not
taken the
proper management over 72 hours. Most of symptoms and signs of toxic reactions disappeared after hemodialysis, while cerebellar dysfunction including ataxia, dysarthria, and incoordination of motor function has persisted over 12 weeks.
